The Power of White
Things are coming together nicely in the Spanish Colonial we bought 2 years ago in the hills above Malibu. Here's a shot of the stairwell rotunda from the second floor. The walls, once a yellowed beige, now stand bright and crisp in Benjamin Moore's Grand Teton White (one of my favorite whites). The floors have been refinished and the ironwork, once a gaudy faux rust, is now painted flat black - all helping the true Moroccan feeling of the architecture to shine through. As a designer, I feel like I am often metaphorically whispering "shhhh" to competing themes, colors, textures and patterns so that the most important elements can take center stage and be heard. We did just that to these spaces so that art and architectural lines are allowed to make the most impact. I can honestly say that waking up and walking into this space from my bedroom every morning inspires my day with that special balance of color, curation and lovely architecture that I adore.
